Canada’s premier editing conference is just around the corner! We look forward to welcoming you to the SFU Harbour Centre in Vancouver this Friday, and we want to make sure you know about some last-minute offers, events, and sessions.
Newly added events!
Pre-conference Editors BC festivities
The Editors Canada BC Branch will be hosting some activities to kick off the conference. Friday is going to be the conference’s official (but very casual and cool) first day. Join us from 10 am to 3 pm on Friday, June 21, at the conference venue for some performances, games, and mingling!
If you aren’t able to make it to the Thursday night dinner, we’d love to get to know you at these open social events before the sessions officially begin on Saturday. If you can tear yourself away from the performances, we also have some wonderful artists, organizations, and vendors who will be there for most of the afternoon and through the evening reception.
Come for the acts and snacks, but stay all day for the amazing people you’ll meet! Make sure your footwear and clothes are comfortable for multiple rounds of applause, handshaking, toe-tapping, and limbering up for the relay race*.
Here’s the schedule:
- 10 am: Open networking
- 11 am: Welcome ceremony + spoken word performances
- 12 pm: Lunch hour
- 1 pm: Purple Prose paragraph relay
- Teams of editors will race to be the first through a gauntlet of unpolished prose supplied by authors from the Federation of BC Writers. Participants will be scored on speed and results.
- 2 pm: Afternoon spoken word performance
*No physical racing necessary, but do come prepared to think on your feet!
SFU Creative Writing and Editors Canada present Mad Libs Mingler: A get-together for writers and editors
If there’s one thing that brings writers and editors together, it’s a shared belief that the right word in the right place at the right time can change the world and that the wrong word can be pretty funny. We’ve removed some key words from some famous pieces of writing. In teams, we’ll work together to fill in the blanks. Come help us mangle some famous literature, or maybe improve it!

Come to our speed mentoring sessions
Our famous lightning-round mentoring sessions are ready for you! If you are a mid-career editor looking for advice from experienced colleagues, this is for you! There will be two of these sessions: one on June 22 at 3:45 pm and one on June 23 at 2:45 pm. Bring your questions, concerns, and ideas; we hope to see you there!
Become a conference buddy
Never been to an Editors Canada conference before? Never fear! The Conference Buddies option is included in your registration. The Conference Buddies program matches up editors in small groups, with each group coordinated by a lead buddy. In the weeks leading up to the conference, conference buddies get to know each other through email. Networking is always easier and more fun when you start out with a few people you already know.
If you missed signing up when you registered, just send us a quick message at conferencebuddies@editors.ca.
Join us for our awards banquet!
The conference awards banquet is always a night to remember. Come and celebrate your colleagues’ achievements with a little pomp and circumstance (and good food)! This year, the banquet will be held at the SFU Harbour Centre from 7 pm to 10 pm on Saturday, June 22. Tickets are on sale on the conference website. See you there!
Volunteer at the conference
As you may know, Editors Canada is a volunteer-run organization, and our conferences are similarly volunteer-powered!
We’d love to have you fill one or more volunteer spots at this year’s Editors Canada Conference. Please follow this link to view and sign up for your spots! And share this link with your network; volunteering is always more fun with friends! Plus, we’re thrilled to offer you one complimentary conference session of your choice for each volunteer shift you complete during the conference!
