Elections: Volunteer for a Position on the Editors BC Executive!
Before the guest speaker session, Editors BC will be holding the Annual General Meeting and elections to fill vacancies for the 2026–2027 branch executive. Volunteering is an effective way to meet editing colleagues, develop a new skill or two, and strengthen your resumé—with only a few hours of commitment per month.
These are the available executive positions:
- Branch Chair: Oversee the business and activities of the BC branch and act as the branch spokesperson
- Treasurer: Be responsible for the branch funds, including managing payments and accounts, preparing the annual budget for approval, and providing the executive with financial updates
- Programs Chair and Co-Chair: Arrange guest speakers and host monthly general meetings and community events from September to May
- Professional Development (PD) Chair and Co-Chair: Plan and coordinate seminars or other PD initiatives for members from September to May, with input from the executive
- Communications and Social Media Co-Chair: Promote the association and the branch to relevant groups by coordinating Editors BC’s social media presence and by ensuring a presence at relevant public events
- Volunteer Coordinator: Liaise between Editors BC and potential and existing volunteers, oversee the Editors BC volunteer program, and serve as the first point of contact for new volunteers
- Member Services: Encourage membership in the association and strive to improve the membership experience of all members by working with Programs and PD.
- Webmaster: Make updates and changes to the branch web pages via WordPress as required by the BC branch executive and committees
We strongly encourage members throughout the province to join the executive!
Note that student affiliate members are welcome to hold any executive position except for branch chair, communications and social media chair, and treasurer. Editors Canada bylaws limit those positions to regular members only.
Contact chair@editorsbc.ca for more information.
After the AGM, we will have a guest speaker presenting.
Self-Publishing: The Why and How for Editors and Writers
As editors, we may often come across friends, colleagues, or clients who are considering self-publishing. Many of us are also writers ourselves, working on our own projects and wondering about publishing them.
How much does self-publishing cost? Is it best to publish an ebook or a hardback? Do I need an ISBN? And what exactly is an ISBN? Alexandra Amor, The Self-Publishing Coach, will help to answer these questions and more, equipping you with knowledge you can pass on to your clients, or use for your own future bestseller.
Alexandra Amor mentors and guides authors who want to skip the confusing and sometimes overwhelming process and get their books published as quickly and efficiently as possible. She began her self-publishing career with an award-winning memoir about the ten years she accidentally spent in a cult in the 1990s. She also designs and formats beautiful interior book files for independent authors. Learn more at TheSelfPublishingCoach.com.
Note: Editors BC will record this meeting. Editors Canada members have up to 30 days to request a link to the recording by emailing coordinator@editorsbc.ca.
