Following an energetic and enthusiastic September general meeting presentation, Steve Colle returns to Editors BC with a seminar focused on the unique editorial needs of comic book lettering.

Beyond proofreading and copy editing the text in comics, editing the art and design of the lettering is an integral responsibility of comic book editors. This seminar will guide you in understanding the art of lettering and its place as the last stage of production. Participants will develop an appreciation for how what comes before—in the writing, the art, and the colouring—all have a role in the success the lettering will play in the final product.

In this seminar, you’ll learn:

  •  Why composition, clarity, consistency, and purpose are key to the art of lettering
  •  Where font selection, versatility, conditions, and parameters affect readability
  •  How size reflects volume in speech and sound effects
  •  How placement of lettering helps guide reading order and eye flow

Join us in this introductory webinar to learn the stylistic editing of text, shapes, order, and design within the panels and pages of comics.

This seminar will be recorded.

Registration closes on Tuesday, October 21, at 11:59 pm.
